Post AOAA park news
I'll be posting news and announcements for the AOAA as I hear them here.

First off, an online poll is on www.newsitem.com now and runs for a few days. Please check it out and vote to support the park.

replied, and left a comment. (Don't worry, I refrained from referring to the locals who are objecting as mouth-breathing fucktards.)

That would be me. :)

Actually, I do like the idea. Doing it correctly will be a major undertaking...that's what I have an issue with. Do it right or don't do it at all.
I'm on the fence but would certainly get involved to help out provided I bought into the plan. Time to check in again...haven't looked into it since the ball was seemingly dropped a couple years ago. I got annoyed with the town meetings getting postponed.
Eventually just said f*ck it.

No not even close Fred. The mouth-breathing fucktards Eskimo is referring to are the locals that showed up at the public meetings opposing this project because 1-"I'm a tax payer in Northumberland county so since this is county land I own it and should be able to ride for free", 2-"Now if this county land is closed for our use how can I afford to dispose of my trash when I can't take it out there and dump it anymore, 3-"the commissioners should work on bringing jobs and industry back to this area, not an off-road park" (ah dumb ass that's exactly what they're doing here), 4-"All this park is going to do is attract a bunch of out of the area outlaw off-roaders to our area who will raise the crime rate and destroy our beautiful land" (again dumbass, the out of the area people bringing their families, friends and their high dollar off-road equipment aren't going to be your crime problem and many of them are VOLUNTEERING to help clean up the land you dump your trash on) and so on and so on. They are the fucktards! These public meetings were definitely interesting.

Yeah, the plan seems solid to me, and having seen first-hand the benefit that was given in Harlan County Kentucky from a free park, (which also faced many of the same objections as AOAA), I'm all for it.

It's the economy stupid

The whole thing is predicated on bringing jobs and outside wealth into the community authority should at least have civic minded and business oriented people or people who would hire such on the authority the business plan will be key is there a business plan?
If memory serves me well the amount of money brought in by the Hatfield McCoy trails was not that much million or so my own experience showed no great influx of wealth into these small backwater town I think our advantage is locale and proximity to the Northeast region of the United States with its populace and the need
for recreational areas visit

Again excuse the syntax my iPad is trying to interpret my dictation

Sounds like the county may join on, as they had been hoping, with Reading Anthracite to expand the park.

Can't speak about Hatfield-mccoy as I know nothing about those, but in Kentucky, a town that was so dead that it made Shamokin look like a boom town now is thriving, with new restaurants, campgrounds, parts stores, etc.. and the locals (though some still don't like the outsiders) in general have a much more optimistic view about their future...

Maybe the locals who oppose the park will finally start to see the light? Grant money for the local area is beginning to roll in thanks mostly to the AOAA.

The article said something about events already taking place there...surely not sponsored riding events for those that know someone?

At any rate, that's real encouraging. Makes me think of opening some kind of enterprise.

Yeah, there have been rides for clubs who seem to have an "in" somehow, and it's for an organized event. From the perspective of public opinion, I really think doing those rides are a TERRIBLE idea. "Oh yeah, the xxxxxxx club can ride, but me, Joe Shamokin-ite, can't ride yet".. Not a good comment to be made, and in my opinion, a justified one! You're either open, closed, or doing work days.

An auto parts or dirt-sports shop will likely do well there. They'll just have to be open like Thursday-Monday or something, so they're available when the traffic will be highest, and then just pray that a big box autozone or similar doesn't open right next to it.

The AOAA just received a $788,000 grant. :woot: That should help things along some more.

Opening day today! I wish I could be there but as usual my Saturday is already packed with other stuff to do.

The News Item has been loaded with articles on the AOAA this week to the point the Sound Off had people complaining there was too much coverage :jerkoff: Here's a few links from this week:

http://newsitem.com/news/officials-prai ... -1.1687267

http://newsitem.com/news/for-local-enth ... -1.1687307

Barry Yorwarth is my cousin. He's been working so hard at this project for so long. I'm glad this is finally a reality for him.

rode last sat
bought season pass, good thru December
trails poorly marked but updated next day supposedly
still bugs. barry sez pass goes with rider. if you have four quads there at the same time you have to have four passes. if you want to choose from your quiver you can just ride that one quad no problem. pass goes on helmet or quad.
he suggested a lanyard neck thing but is not official. I think it is a good flexible solution. tell him, jarrod.
I rode trails that I haven't been on in years. took the teryx. was fun. was nice to see fresh out of state blood. it has potential
talked with Yamaha rep. hes been to every park in usa. sez locals always raise a fuss but they go away when the money rolls in.
he thinks key is making it family oriented. mark trails clearly so dad doesn't take little johnny down the death trail bymistake.
rentals? get their credit card so they are responsible for damages and charge hell out of them to keep the riffraff away.
I suggest Yamaha grizzly 800s with power steering. lets start a business with forum members contributing their life savings to the start up. :D
