Post Ouch!!! Helmet purchases.
So my Shoei X11 Kiyonari will officially be dead, according to the OEM, on 02/13 when it turns seven. There's not a scratch on it. Rather than risk a track org saying I can't use it, I'll get a new one...same as Jarrod's, but in blue.

Go to RevZilla today, and, boy, was it painful.
I coulda stopped at Montgomeryville Cycle Center, they also have quite a selection, but I wanted to hook up with one of RevZilla's guys that used to work at Monkeyville.

Had my mind set on a couple choices...basically, a Bell or a Shoei. Was kinda hopin' not to pay the crack habit prices that Arai charges. They didn't have the Kiyonari in stock, I wasn't quite diggin' the Bells and none of the other helmets appealed to my fashion sense while also providing the quality and reputation to which I've grown accustomed. (Admit it, you buy helmets to match your bikes).

Well, I had seen the X12 Bautista on-line and couldn't get around the fact that he's been involved in some disreputable on track, um, incidents...and I had assumed his helmet would have his name or number or flag or some other shit I'm not interested in promoting.

After exhausting my friend's patience with indecision, he pulls out the Bautista.
Damn thing called my name.
Two shields and a couple bottles of track coolant later, I get stiffed for $.95K...
A couple :plus1: :plus1: , Bautista podiumed and the helmet really is nice looking.

So much for tryin' to kick the crack habit.

I'm still around cuz the helmets I crashed were good.
Gotta enough stuff to do a whole "wall of shame" devoted to my mishaps. :)

I am a scorpion fan as well. They really stack up to much more expensive lids. Especially when you buy one of their very attainable top shelf versions.

x2. Great discussion over some  about if a $800 DOT lid is better for your melon than a $200 DOT lid, but you know a LOT of it is comfort & weight.

I went from an Arai Quantum to the Scorpion 700, and the inside is 90% as good. It also worked well for 5 years until I scraped the ground with it, but it was such a light impact it'll be good as a spare. The 750 I replaced it with has the pump-up cheekpads, I think it fits better than the Arai could possibly do.

However, it's noticeably heavier than the Arai or a top-shelf Shoei, too.. so that's the big difference.
