Post Boot clearance and exhaust on the Tuono
So a while back when I had both the Mille and the Tuono, I had taken the California Superbike School, and one thing they noticed was that my high-mount Arrow exhaust was preventing me from getting proper foot placement, and therefore, knee-lock into the tank. So, I swapped the Tigcraft system from the Tuono onto the Mille, and vice-versa, since I don't ride the Tuono hard enough to really need that kind of lock with the tank.

Here's a shot of the before:

Fast forward to this year, and I decide to start coaching track days. For numerous reasons, the Tuono is great for that, and I had sold the Mille! Except for one little thing - the high-mount exhaust is again rearing its ugly head! After quite literally getting hip cramps trying to work around it, I decided to see what I'd have to do (short of going back to an OEM exhaust & slip-on) to make the system work. Nicole had also expressed some interest in riding with me, so I needed to figure out a way to have passenger pegs again!

I did some fiddling, and things looked like they might work, so out came the cutting tools. Point of no return!!

Here's where we stand now. The left side pipe is perfect, it just needs about 3-4 inches added to it to get the can further up from the swingarm (it hits when the suspension compresses) and so there's more pipe inside the muffler.

The right side though, needs more pipe, but it's not just a simple extension unfortunately. It needs to be angled as well, in order for the angles of the cans to match. You can see the pipe isn't even in the can.

I definitely think some kind of support up high near the taillights is a good idea... and maybe shortening the cans just a few inches might be aesthetically pleasing? I really like the upward angle of them though.. it's kinda hawt.

Any suggestions for a guy who can do stainless work by chance?

There's a guy near Washingtonville I've heard does stainless exhaust work. I'll have to dig up his name.

Or maybe Atlantic Equipment in Danville. Pucker, do you know Dan that's in charge of the shop?

Thanks! I just called and talked to him, and will be heading up there Saturday so he can have a look at the bike. Hell, I might even chat him up to see about replacing the tail section of the Avalanche's exhaust... I never liked the bends / supports that were done on it where it exits the mufflers.

I texted Dave Z. from J-Town customs (the tint guy) if he knew who you're talking about - I figure he'd have info on anyone in that area..

I was thinking about asking Ryan Betz. He'd know anyone out there for sure.

man, I just saw this. Firman's in Milton does custom exhaust. He does mostly dual truck exhausts, but he is an avid motorcyclist (or whatever Hardley riders are) He is very open minded and running the same shop for several generations. Let me know if your other options fail.

But does he do stainless?

I actually got distracted working outside yesterday and didn't go to the place in Berrick

I always assumed that he did. He would be the first person that I would check.

You gotta that rite... Dan-O's the man. The bad issue is they are working 7 days, 12 hour days right now, so you'd have to wait a few weeks until they are caught up. Come by for lunch and drop off the part if interested... Or just call me and we'll work it out.

Damn, you slave driver!! :hammer:

If they were both just straight pieces, I could drop it off, but I think whoever does it needs the whole bike to get the angle correct on the right side. I hate putting someone who's already overworked out even further.. I'll check with Firman's.

Pucker, ask Dan about party's at the Lake House, as we called it. Lake Glory near Southern Columbia. I think we scared him straight at some point.

Here's where we're at.. I may weld a support rod to bridge the angle piece if I find that it's bending, but for now, off to Summit Point!

R&S auto in Bloom did the TIG welding.. (Longer springs are on order)

Looks good, and the welds are much better than the ones I've seen from other welders in the area.
