Post Danville-area paint and bodywork guy..
So while Zach was helping me with some aluminum and I was out with the sander making a general mess of things, I had a Greg-House-esque epiphany..

EDIT: I can no longer recommend my neighbor, after the job he did on my truck.

Yes you do! You're just afraid to admit to it.

edited first post.
I'm quite literally sick to my stomach. I'm pissed at taking him at his word ("I'm picky", "it's gonna be right", etc..), sad for what I've done to my poor truck, and unsure if the work is salvageable, or I'm now just relegated to driving a 10-footer until it rusts apart and is worth absolutely nothing more than the parts that make up the drivetrain.

He fixed all the dents, I'll give him that. The paint itself isn't bad (Needs wet-sanding, but that's normal), but everything else is amateur hour. Overspray on everything (Every window, every bit of trim, several spots on the cladding), there's masking tape lines visible in several areas, the rust repair is half-assed and looks like absolute shit, there's a hair under the paint, and the hood looks like he never re-did it after doing a real quick spray job months ago just so I could get to the track.

We're gonna have a serious talk at lunch today.

An example. He made a repair panel for the rocker, and promised that all the remaining metal that was good but had surface rust would get encapsulated in POR-15.
These were taken from underneath. One is looking through a giant hole that shouldn't be there at the old factory metal. Think this will rust into oblivion in no time?

And why would you stop applying the POR15 when you can see rust starting?

Damn.
I guess I'll be doing mine myself. Case of rattle cans, some trim tape, whatever that stuff is that converts rust into black, no-longer-rusting stuff and some Rhino liner.
Of course, there's the $5000+ professional option, but the front of the 'Vette was done "professionally" and it's crap. I swear, a semi-skilled laborer with the right motivation could do a better job than most I've seen out of a shop.

Eastwood looks to have a rather extensive line of por-15 type stuff with aerosols, brush-on, flexible nozzles, and all kinds of cool shit.. Catching it when it's like the rocker in the second picture is the key. Then it's just clean, tape, scuff, spray. I unfortunately waited about 1-2 years after I noticed it slightly beyond that point. Lesson learned.

My fear is that it's gonna cost so much more to undo his crap that I'm basically locked into either 1: just hounding him to fix it, or 2: living with it, and hoping I get t-boned by a semi at an intersection to total it.

Update: I don't think I will change my stance on not recommending him, however, at least there's a good possibility that my truck is salvageable and that this will work out in the end.
We'll see. I'm cautiously optimistic.

He acknowledged that he wasn't done, and will keep working on it until I'm happy. I know he can do good work (I've seen it), but I just will have to keep on him.
