Post Re: Winter bike projects
Another winter project on my to do list was decide what to do with my spare RC51 wheels I bought from Smokey years ago. I originally planned on using them to swap tires around and use on the street bike but I never did so I stripped them down, pulled out the seals and bearings and dropped them off at the powder coater's shop to be done in white. Now I'll have a dedicated spare set for the track bike.

I disassembled literally half of the Big Ruckus to tighten up the steering head bearings before the front end of the bike fell off. That's something I've been putting off forever because I knew it was going to be a pain in my ass. Man were they loose! Also ordering carb jets for it. Everyone says rejetting them makes a world of difference.

That my friends should be the last post in this Winter Bike Projects thread because it is officially spring! :woot:

word! I can't imagine that I will be doing a track day in less than two weeks. I froze my nuts off walking to the compost bin today. Imagine going 120mph?

Soooo let's see...

R6:
1: Replace the muffler that's been rashed/dented from a few falls. - Got a shiny new one from a guy on the R6 forum for less than I could with my sponsorship! No Ti this time, but the
2: Reinforce my home-brew seat pan with some fiberglass. The model magic stuff kept compressing in a few spots and was coming out the holes in the seat pan like toothpaste. The clay will be a good base layer for me to 'glass over, though.
3: Repair the rashed bodywork before having it re-painted. More fun with fiberglass!
4: Replace "But the internet said it would work" '07 fuel pump + '08 fuel line with proper '08+ parts. (When I pulled the tank, the main semi-rigid fuel line to the injectors was kinked) - replacement parts on-hand.
5: Suspension refresh
6: Engine refresh ($$$$)
7: Maaaybe get my black wheels powdercoated to match the bike? Don't feel like replacing perfectly good wheel bearings though. (Maybe they're cheap, I haven't looked)

Tuono (Since I plan on using it more this coming year)
1: Fix the silly cooling system plastic tee that broke
2: New tires
3: Maybe some suspension upgrades? (Currently has stock F&R Sachs with Traxxion dynamics revalve only) Not like it needs anything at the pace I'll be riding it, but...

I have the bearing driver kit if you want to pound out the bearings. I use All balls racing. They are much cheaper than OEM. Or you can get ceramic ($$$).

Yeah I have a bearing kit too. If you want to borrow it you can trade me for my chain tool you still have :hammer: I haven't needed it but Shawn could have used it last trip to FUSA.

I have done exactly zero to the bikes so far this winter.

:? I've actually felt really bad every time I see it.. Would it be any better now that it's resting on a 12-pack of snowdrift porter? :)

Snowdrift? Yes I miss it a whole lot less now!

Seriously, I didn't even remember you had it until Shawn needed one at the track. I was like "where the hell, oh yeah I remember". I haven't needed it. In fact I HATE doing chains.

So I can borrow it for when I replace my chain! I'm kinda thinking it's a good thing to do annually on the race bike, but damn, it's in perfect shape. Maybe I should convert the Tuono over to 520 so I can use my old chains on it.. :P

(Maybe this time I'll finally cut the fucking thing to the right length the FIRST time.
